JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Early Head Start PAY GRADE: 304 Educare Teacher Placement based on qualifications (CDA, or Associate Degree) REPORTS TO: Early Head Start WORK DAY:226 Days Education Specialist DEPT/DIVISION: Department of Educational DATE REVISED: 08/14 Support/Early Head Start WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt _________________________________________________________________PRIMARY PURPOSE: To establish and maintain an appropriate and safe environment which develops the social, intellectual, physical, and emotional competence required to prepare Early Head Start children for school readiness, develop positive teacher/child relationships with a focus on nurturing and responsive care giving and establish productive relationships with families of enrolled children. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED equivalent and one of the following: Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential at time of hire or equivalent Early Childhood certification or; AA or AAS in Early Childhood or related education degree with a minimum of 60 hours in early childhood education. Acceptable tuberculosis screening results and physical exam, clear criminal background and fingerprint check are required post job offer and prior employment.<br /> <br /> Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of current research and practices related to early childhood development. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Bilingual preferred. Current knowledge of minimum standards and guidelines for a Licensed Child Care Center as required by Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services. Excellent computer literacy and typing skills in the use of basic office software systems. Ability to engage children in an energetic and positive manner. Ability to develop learning objectives and implement experiences that are appropriate for child&rsquo;s level of development. Ability to understand and interpret assessments of children&rsquo;s progress. Ability to relate to and interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, socio-economic status, and family life styles. Ability to develop positive attitudes and relationships with children, parents, volunteers, substitutes and co-workers. Ability to be flexible and respond effectively to team work concepts. Training: OSHA, bloodborne pathogens and HIV training. Variety of in-service and staff development training, occasionally after scheduled work hours. Attend local meetings, professional development workshops and occasional outof town conferences; (may include some weekends).<br /> <br /> Minimum Experience: Experience following verbal and written directions. Experience implementing age appropriate curriculum and classroom activities. Experience working with young children (0-5) years in a licensed childcare setting. Experience in providing accurate documentation and necessary follow-up.&nbsp;
